The Spark
Everything begins with an idea.
The imagination can be a rich, fertile playground where worlds can be built, rebuilt, and restructured effortlessly in milliseconds, with the only limitation being the thinker’s ability to ponder.
I feel we have neglected this practice amidst our growing obligations, responsibilities, and now deeper fears. It seems as if we are eager to be yanked from the blissful fields of our minds where all manner of creative elements flow and somehow feel we need to be more responsible and grown-up. I say, Humbug!
Within these moments of isolated contemplation, ideas emerge pretty differently than when we are actively trying to solve an issue. This isn’t specifically meditation time, as meditation is quite the opposite of freeing the mind, but this is the purposeful construction of realms, treks, and adventures.
Consider it watching a feature film that hasn’t been written, and you’re the writer, director, and producer. Take a single idea and build upon it. That idea may be a challenge you are facing, or it might be a pure journey through the cosmos filled with all manner of wonder; this is your cosmos – anything goes.
The idea is to eke out time to explore ideas in your mind just as you would attend a board meeting. Keep a journal of explorations you wish to pursue, or take a challenge you have recently encountered and take it for a spin around the block – be bold and daring, and see where the idea takes you.
The Challenge
I lay a challenge to myself, and you are welcome to join – to make moments each day to return to those expanses filled with wonder and excitement where the only limitation was the ability to envision what could be – for it is in thought where we craft the awe-inspiring delights of the future.
